L is for Learning, Repeat after me.
I have the attention span of a squirrel. Or rather a learning attention. So if you were to translate my learning abilities graphically, it will be an almost vertical line and then followed by a plateau. I pick things up fast. After the basics are taught, I switched off or rather, switched to my own theories. Which explains why I had an IQ of 120 by the time I was 5. And it remains the same till now. I mean at least I hope so. You know what they say about IQ, that it is just like driving. The longer the stagnant period, the harder it is to come back to you. My mother attributed the fact that I got my father eating out of my hands was due to my double-decked brains. Thank you very much but I prefer to think that he loves me more than himself.
Sometimes I wish I have the decency to be consistent in learning so that I might perhaps achieve more out of life. With a learning curve like mine, it is no wonder that I do really well in maths and sciences. Cos all you need is to see the equations and applications once and then apply it to all the other questions. Bingo, there you are. But in design school, it was a different story all together. You can't possible take a design and apply it every where right? Well, technically you can, judging by how LV just put its logo all over whatever it is selling and how you always ask for the exact interior design that your neighbour had. Move into your neighbour's place lah. But er, you can't do that when you are still a student trying to pass your exams. Now I know the real reason why I had lack-lustre performance in design school.
The main reason why I bought up this topic was due to a training that I attended recently. You know, in preparation to teach bratty working undergraduates. Maybe not bratty as I figured out that most are going to be older than I am. 5 min into the training I already figured out what the rest of the contents of the 3 1/2 hr training would be. It is just application. I liked the trainer. His sense of humour is as dry as mine. So no one laughed at his jokes. Or rather, they took a min, digest, then let out a luke warm laugh.
I spent the night laughing at the audience.
